SALT AND LIGHT

SALT AND LIGHT Matthew 5:13-16

Matthew 5:13-16
You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus often taught his disciples by using figures of speech. Jesus masterfully used his sermons to stir the hearts of people and paint mental images that had lasting impact. As believers in Christ, we are to bring glory to God. We can do that by shining our light to others. How do we do that? By showcasing Jesus’ love for others, his teachings and his ways in our lives. How we treat others, how we talk, how we behave, how we react to good and bad events all reflect on our heavenly father. Even unbelieving people can bring glory to our God when we follow Jesus.

What a challenge? Shine a light. Maybe we don’t want a light to shine too brightly on our lives. Repent. Turn from sin. Seek God. Worship continuously. Pray frequently. Live faithfully. Choose to behave like Christ, not as we naturally want to. God will shine the light through us. it is his light, not ours.
